Minor in Museums and Archives Studies
Overview
About the Minor
Beginning in fall 2026, Purdue Libraries and School of Information Studies, in collaboration with the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance, will offer an undergraduate minor in Museums and Archives Studies, led by Purdue University Archives and Special Collections and Purdue University Galleries.
The Museum and Archive Studies minor introduces undergraduates to museum and archive careers before graduate study. Few programs in the United States offer this level of hands-on experience through Purdue’s Galleries and Archives and Special Collections.
The program explores the structures, histories, theories, and professional practices of museums and archives. Students gain practical experience in curatorial and archival work, along with research, writing, and communication skills applicable to a wide range of careers.
By formalizing existing coursework and internships, the minor expands access to experiential learning and strengthens students’ academic and professional preparation for careers and graduate study.
The minor is open to students from all majors and requires no prerequisites.
